Services by Panicos Spanos.
Dimensions: 185 x 70 x 20 cm.
Spanos often uses his sculptures as an agency for socio-political critic. This female body coupled with the word “service” acts as a subtle yet direct commentary on the current political system of Cyprus, and other first world countries at large.
The Covid pandemic has shaken the world like never before, and Governments are struggling to pick up the pieces. This global crisis has emphasized the system’s shortcomings and inadequacies, albeit the officials’ efforts of concealment. The status quo is being challenged and we are bearing witness. Everything and anything is up for sale, while the people are given false assurances and promises. First world counties are, theoretically, the protectors of the rule of law and the providers of public services. However, the cracks on this façade are slowly showing and the naked truth is being exposed.
